Things I want to tell my granddaughter.

10391578_209526043456_1631514_n  There are a few things that I can say I looked upon with great delight, the day your dad was born, the days your uncles were born, the day I met your grandma HJ, and the day you were born.

Your daddy won’t agree with this but he was scared, and unsure what he was going to do with you. But let me tell you, the minute he first held you, he was wrapped around your tinny tiny little finger. But then again so was I. You didn’t come out screaming like most babies, you cried but then settled down and just took the whole wide world in with you shining brown eyes.

I want to tell you that even though you are raised by your dad, you have a whole bunch of people that love and support you. You will never lack for someone to talk to or to just listen to you.

You are stronger than you think. It took me a while to realize this for myself, so I’m here to tell you that. And when you think you are beaten and can’t find the strength to keep going, you will have people to help you.

I want you to know that having a voice and standing up for yourself is never wrong. Your grandma HJ will be the first to tell you to speak up, don’t let ANYONE tell you your worth or your place. Grandma HJ has fought hard to make this world a place for girls and women to be able to say what they think.

Kids are mean, and even though we grown-ups are trying, there will be bullies. Kids, people that will say things to you that will hurt your feelings, that will make you question your self-worth. Know that they are wrong, that YOU and only you know what you are capable of. Do not let them push you beyond your limits. TELL someone if that happens, I promise you, you are not the first person, boy or girl to have this happen to them.

You will make mistakes in life, it is a part of growing up. Know that those mistakes will not determine the rest of your life. Some will be bad, some will be really bad, but there is ALWAYS a way through it.

Know, my precious little girl, that your body, is your’s and no one, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, should tell you what you should do with it or touch you without YOUR permission. I know you’re too young to understand this, but at some point, you will.

Know my sweetheart that if we could, we would keep you from ever hurting. But we can’t. You will experience the loss of someone you love, you will experience a broken heart, it’s life sweetheart. But know when one door closes another one opens, know that as long as you hold your loved one in your memories and heart, they will never really be gone.

I know this is not the end of all the things I want to tell you, some things will pop up and I’ll write them down, but the one thing I want to tell you is this, from the day you were born, you are and always will be my little Angel.

I love you, Buddha.
